Sexual offences in the Military

There has been some considerable controversy of late about the fact that the conviction rate for sexual offences at Court Martial is so low and a suggestion that the civilian police should take over these cases. All well and good, but what about allegations made abroad? To hand over investigations to the civilian police might prove unworkable particularly if it meant service personnel having to return to the UK. One solution, at least in part, might be for a civilian officer to be seconded to the investigation to advise and act in a supervisory role. However, this might prove impossible in a combat area.
